Installation

Insert the DVD/CD, answer three simple questions and Skolelinux are installed on the machine. Behind the simple installation are more than five years of thorough planning and fitting of services enabled and ready for use.

A complete solution for your entire network

Skolelinux comes with a standard architecture and if this is upheld it's very easy to install and maintain an installation. Skolelinux comes with many services enabled and ready for user straight from the start:

• Centralized user directory services. No matter what computer you use on the network, you use the same username and password for your login.
  
  
• Centralized file and directory services. No matter what computer you use, you got your files and settings the way you left them. You meet the same greeting and the same desktop on any machine and nobody else (besides the administrator) can change it.
  
  
• Thin client solution. Programs are ran on a thin client server that is a powerful machine, and the program images and user interaction happens on the client. This enables your organization to take advantage of old hardware often not usable for traditional installed computing running fresh and high quality software. In addition this gives an advantage with maintenance of the installation since all work is done on the thin client server.
  
  
• Printers can be shared and made available through the entire network.
  
  
• A so-called proxy server relays traffic between the Internet and the local network. This enables even slow connections to deliver a rich Internet experience.
  
  
• In addition services like an web server, e-mail server and database server are included in the base installation.
