Saving to Your Computer's Hard Disk

hard disk

If you have used Snøfrix for some time, and you then shut down the computer, all the files that you have downloaded, created, or modified will be lost --- unless you save them.

Saving to hard disk is a variation on the theme of Saving to Diskette.

Before You Begin

unmounted On the desktop you can see an icon called "Hard Disk Partition [hda1]". To prevent you from accidentally making changes to your Windows system, Snøfrix prepares the hard disk so that you can neither read from it nor write to it.
mounted If you click on the hard disk icon, the hard disk will be mounted. At this stage you can read from the hard disk, but NOT write to it. The hard disk is in "read-only" mode.

Changing to Read-Write Mode

To make changes to the files stored on the hard disk, you must switch from "read-only" mode to "read-write" mode. To do so, click on the hard disk icon with the RIGHT mouse button, and under Actions choose Change read/write mode from the menu. When asked if you are sure, you should click on yes. If at this stage you get an error message, read this.

Drag and Drop

Now it is possible to drag your file to the hard disk icon and drop it there!

Be careful when you drop files onto the hard disk icon. There are many files on the hard disk, and if you drop your file in the wrong place, you may have problems finding it later. A good suggestion is therefore to first click on the hard disk icon (this time with the LEFT mouse button), and then click your way in to the directory where you want to save the file - "My Documents" might be a good place.
